Comments about LinkPRO and LinkLITE Battery Monitors:

The first one of these units that I installed did not work at all. The numbers on the screen did not make sense and none of the buttons worked as the manual described.

I called tech support and reached someone who clearly had no idea how to diagnose the product. After trying to explain the problem to her for about 10 minutes she finally transferred me to someone who understood how the product is supposed to work. He agreed that the unit was faulty and told me to bring it back to the retailer and exchange it for a new one.

I swapped in the new unit and it seemed to work ok at first. The battery voltages on the screen matched what I measured with a real voltmeter on the terminals of my main and auxiliary batteries, and the current flow amperage readings in and out of the main battery were very helpful in making sure the battery was being properly charged.

However, even when there is no current being drawn from the main battery, the monitor still shows there is 0.1 - 0.2 amps of current being used (even though the battery is disconnected from all loads). Over the course of several days the Xantrex unit indicates that the battery is being continually discharged and eventually reaches a 0% charge, even though the battery is actually fully charged.

More recently, I discovered that my auxilary battery has been losing charge, even when it was disconnected from everything on the boat (except the Xantrex battery monitor). The Xantrex has been draining the auxilary battery when it was supposed to be monitoring its voltage.

Comments about LinkPRO and LinkLITE Battery Monitors:

I purchased this battery meter for my RV (travel trailer). I have the Freedom Link 2000 system on my boat and I'm absolutely sold on knowing the condition of my batteries. Having recently purchased this RV and upgraded the battery bank I also want to keep track of it. This meter was the least expensive one available that offers the necessary monitoring functions.

Installation was simple and straightforward with only 5 connections needed for a single battery bank (including the twisted pair for the current shunt). I won't say it was easy, but that was due to the installation configuration in the RV, not the meter requirements.

Operation is also simple (and easy). And having installed it only last week it is already paying for itself by showing me I have a 0.5A continuous drain happening that I need to track down. That alone will drain my 245Ah bank of new golf cart batteries in less than 2 weeks. I'll also now be able to determine the drain of each major 12V load in the RV (such as the fridge when it's running on 12V) and understand what to expect from the batteries. This is extremely useful information, and it is what this meter is all about.

Based on my experience to date, I give this meter a 5, but I haven't used it long enough to determine durability or reliability.
