Vice President, Talent
Shanon has been in Retail for over 18 years. She grew up in Ventura County and graduated college from California State University, Chico in 2002. She started her Retail career at Harbor Freight Tools where she spent ten years managing various Accounting and Finance teams through rapid company growth as they grew from 70 to 400 stores. In late 2011, she joined Pacific Sunwear, where she led various accounting functions and cross–functional project teams for two years.
Shanon spent almost six years with Orchard Supply Hardware where she led many initiatives across the organization during rapid cycles of change and growth. Her accomplishments at Orchard include: Chapter 11 vendor negotiations, Accounting and Operations merger and acquisition transition with Lowes, led the final closure of the Orchard chain with Lowes, new store and market planning and execution, merchandising and product strategy development, process redesign, and a companywide people restructure.
Other experience includes redefining and implementing a new Human Resources strategy to be inclusive of a learning and development team, branding for talent acquisition, unique retention offerings for employees in a competitive non–retail market, recruiting, cross–functional on–boarding process redesign, a new culturally reflective annual review and goal setting process, lead a companywide culture movement, and partnered cross–functionally with all levels to execute key financial initiatives.
Shanon spent a year as the Vice President of People at Caliva in San Jose, prior to joining West Marine. Wanting to get back into retail, Shanon joined West Marine in January 2020 as the Vice President of Talent where she leads various HR functions.
Shanon is a strong leader with a passion for people, development, and learning of overall business ecosystems. She is enthusiastic about building motivated and diverse business teams to drive the business while unleashing potential and co–creation to move the business forward. She will challenge others and herself to stretch and grow and has been described as a transparent, impactful, and direct utility player in each organization she has been a part of.
