West Marine, the world’s largest waterlife outfitter, announced the grand opening of its new larger format store in Ft Pierce, FL. Grand opening festivities kick off on Friday, August 1, at 8 a.m. and go through Sunday, August 3. The parking lot will be transformed into a waterlife show, with boats and marine-related organizations. In-store events will include tips from experts, electronics demos, door-buster deals, giveaways and raffles. The new Ft. Pierce store is located at 1463 South US Highway 1.

At more than 15,000 square feet, the West Marine store at this new location is the largest West Marine in in Eastern Florida’s St. Lucie County. More than 50 percent larger than the previous location, the West Marine Ft Pierce will serve the needs of everyone who loves spending time on or around the water. In addition to having an even wider selection of sailing hardware inventory, there will be a Fishing and Bait Shack, a huge selection of marine electronics featuring over 100 units to touch and test and a new engine parts counter. There will be a wide selection of men’s and women’s apparel, footwear and accessories with some of the top nautical brands, plus a broad assortment of inflatable boats, kayaks and a variety of stand-up paddleboards (SUPs).

"The new store will be twice the size of our old location, allowing us to carry a far more extensive selection of the marine products that our customers love," says West Marine Ft. Pierce store manager Pete Ferrell. "We will have a much bigger and better selection of fishing products. Our clothing selection will be the best in town for all of our boating and soon-to-be-boating customers. It will also be the area’s largest selection of SUP's and water sports. It will truly be awesome!"

Ferrell has worked in the marine industry for more than 21 years and has been boating for more than 25 years in locations ranging from Vermont to Texas. He enjoys boating with wife Deann and son Evan on his 21-foot Formula. In his free time, he’s a member of the organization Friends of the Spoil Islands, which works to preserve the unique habitat in the Indian River. He’s been with West Marine for three years.

Other employees at the store will also have a deep knowledge of boating. "Our staff has more than 80 years of expertise in the marine industry, with well over a hundred years of real boating experience," says Ferrell. Assistant manager Randy Milan-Williams, a nine year West Marine veteran, has particularly strong expertise in electronics but also a lot of general knowledge, refined during the seven years he spent cruising in the Caribbean. Fish expert Primo Roasario knows what’s biting where. "Primo, our fishing lead, is one of the best fisherman in town, with years of fishing experience both inshore and offshore,” says Ferrell. "Primo has been fishing since he was old enough to hold one of his father’s rods."
