WATSONVILLE, CA (November 4, 2014) - West Marine, the world’s largest waterlife outfitter, will open its new store in Mystic, CT on November 7, 2014. Located across the street from the Mystic Aquarium at 9 Maritime Drive, at the SE corner of Coogan and Maritime, the new Mystic store is 13,000 square feet – nearly 50 percent larger than the store at the previous location. Store hours are 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday.

The store is designed to cater to both locals and tourists who love spending time on or around the water. Mystic Store Manager Travis Chamberland says he’s excited about the new store’s larger size and more convenient location. “I can’t wait for our customers to see our new store, and the broader selection of products we are carrying,” says Chamberland. “It’s a beautiful building that encompasses the nautical lifestyle of the community, with thousands of items including boats, boat parts, apparel and waterlife accessories.”

Powerboaters will love the new engine counter, with instant access to 1,000 replacement parts for everything from fuel filters to steering cables to make it fast and easy to keep boats operating smoothly on the water. In addition to core boating departments such as maintenance, sailboat hardware and anchoring, the store will have marine electronics available to touch and test, including products from Garmin. The wide selection of men’s and women’s apparel, footwear and accessories includes the top nautical brands such as Helly Hansen, Columbia and Guy Harvey. Hundreds of lifestyle accessories make perfect gifts, such as waterproof Bluetooth speakers, floating phone cases, multi-tools and water bottles with purification filters. Paddling enthusiasts will find one of the best selections of kayaks, stand up paddleboards and paddling accessories in the area, including products by Jimmy Styks, Perception and Pelican.

“The boating and waterlife opportunities are endless in Mystic!” says Chamberland. “There is a great balance to the boating in the area – fishing, sailing, cruising and paddle sports are all very popular. Kayaking in the Mystic River is some of the best New England has to offer, while powerboating and sailing is popular on and around Fishers Island, Long Island and Block Island sounds.” An 11-year veteran of West Marine, Chamberland has been fishing all of his life. He and his wife have become passionate about kayaking in the past few years and enjoy clamming at Sandy Point, crabbing in Quonnie (Quonochontaug) and anchoring off Napatree Point.
