7th Annual West Marine Carolina Cup is Scheduled for April 19-23 in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina

World-class paddling event includes multiple races, Demo Days, SUP pro appearances and BlueFuture Kids Zone

Watsonville, CA, April 5, 2017 – The seventh annual West Marine Carolina Cup, the world’s largest gathering of professional and amateur stand-up paddleboard (SUP) racers, will take place Apr. 19-23 in Wrightsville Beach, NC. This year, as the first major stop on the World Paddle Association’s 2017 World SUP Tour, the event is expected to attract hundreds of accomplished paddlers from around the world.

The West Marine Carolina Cup incorporates five courses: A kids’ race for children ages 7-14, the 3.5-mile Harbor Island recreational race, the 6.5-mile Money Island open race, a six-man outrigger race, and the renowned Graveyard Elite race. The Graveyard — one of just three races in the world to attain 7-Star status — features one of the toughest 13-mile stretches of paddling in the business. It attracts the world’s elite paddlers, who battle it out on SUPs and prone paddleboards in the hopes of winning the cup title.

Expected to attend this year: Travis Grant, 2014 SUP Race World Champion; Conner Baxter; Danny Ching; 2016 Master of the Ocean winner Zane Schweitzer; #1 SUP Athlete Annabel Anderson; and Professional Ocean Athlete Candance Appleby.

West Marine and the Carolina Paddleboard Company will be hosting Demo Days on Friday, Apr. 22 and Saturday, Apr. 23. Enthusiasts will be able to check out all the latest SUP gear, including the industry’s newest boards and paddles.

“I had the good fortune to attend last year’s Carolina Cup and was impressed with the exceptional talent and the incredible location,” says Matt Hyde, West Marine CEO. “Our mission as a company is to help people get out on the water and enjoy life more often, and the Carolina Cup allows hundreds of participants from around the globe to do just that.”

This year marks West Marine’s second as title sponsor of the world-class paddling event. This year West Marine, the world’s premier Waterlife Outfitter, will be joined by GoPro, Maui Jim and variety of category-leading brands that share Hyde’s enthusiasm for the event and the water-focused lifestyle it promotes.

Head on over to the West Marine Zone on the Ocean Side of the event to sign up for a chance to win a GoPro Hero5 Session camera valued at $299.99 and a West Marine SUP package valued at approximately $2,000.

Check out pros like expert paddler Seychelle, who will be on hand to answer questions and sign autographs. Seychelle is a world-ranked SUP racer and holds a Guinness World Record for paddling 100 miles in a 24-hour period.

West Marine’s BlueFuture Kids Zone will be on site with a variety of fun activities for the whole family, including knot-tying, puzzle-making, coloring and giveaways.
