Time tested winch evolves to answer the needs of sailors—cruisers and racers alike.

Lewmar has been evolving and improving winch technology for almost half a century. Since the 1960s Lewmar has developed winch solutions for sailors, the world’s leading boatbuilders and racing teams alike. Evolution never stops: Lewmar has upgraded their Ocean Winch, the most popular winch ever made, and improved it further.

The new EVO® winch is a development containing years of knowledge and understanding of what the sailing community wants. Cruising sailors want a proven quality winch that can be serviced by the boat owner without any tools. They wanted to be able to put the winch together themselves, and they also wanted a reliable and predictable grip. Racing sailors liked the alloy, needle-peened finish of Lewmar’s winches. Their only request was that they’d like it in black, so now EVO® Winches are available in black, gray and chrome bronze finishes. Boatbuilders want a solid, reliable winch that will adapt to changes in boat design. No compromises have been made in terms of quality or integrity of design. You won’t find much plastic here, just high-quality alloys and metals.

EVOlutionary features include:

Self-Tailing: Tailing and grinding at the same time can be a challenge. Each EVO® winch is self-tailing uses an intuitive cast stainless steel top mounted feeder arm to prevent rope traps and guide the line onto a griping wave spring jaw. Position of the feeder can be adjusted to match the application. The wave spring jaw automatically adjusts to different line diameters within the range and can serve as a cleat for sheets.

Two-Speed Gearing: First gear is intended for gross adjustments in sail trim or halyards. Second gear fine tunes sail trim and multiplies the energy you put into grinding to handle greater loads with less effort

Simple servicing: No tools are required to service an EVO® winch. Simply unscrew the top cap with your fingers to remove the drum and provide access to the proven gear train. Each internal component is unique to avoid re-assembling the winch incorrectly; it only goes back together one way.

Electrifying: EVO® winches #40 and larger can be converted to electric power using a conversion kit. The conversion is ideal for short-handed sailing or to take a more civilized approach to cruising. Keep in mind that the motor consumes a significant amount of space below the winch.

Seven year warranty: With an aggressive in-house testing program, Lewmar is so confident about the quality of their new EVO winches that they are backing them up with a new comprehensive seven year warranty.

To stay on top Lewmar evolved by responding to the needs of the sailing community. EVO® winch design is the result of having listened to sailors, boatbuilders and racers who wanted an intuitive, serviceable and adaptable winch. See the selection guide and specification sheets below to confirm which model EVO® is right for your application.
