Well if not, they certainly should be. Patagonia's Wavefarer Board Shorts are as important to surfing as waxing your longboard. Light, durable and tough enough to survive a shallow reef wipeout, these board shorts are made from quick-drying, 100% recycled nylon so you can also feel good about their reduced impact on the environment. They've got a DWR (durable water repellent) finish so they repel moisture and feature 50+ UPF sun protection so you won't have to cut your surfing day short to deal with a sunburn. Did we also mention the fabric is certified as bluesign® approved and sewn at a Fair Trade Certified™ factory? (More on that below.)

The Wavefarer Board Shorts have a natural fit with a slightly trimmer silhouette through the thigh, seat and leg. Their three-piece, self-lined waistband contours to your hips and Patagonia moved the inseam forward to help eliminate chafing. For optimal comfort while paddling, the flat-lying fly secures with a single rubber button. These board shorts close with a bartacked, ladderlock drawstring that adds security and durability. A mesh gasket drains excess water easily. The single pocket on the right hip is self-draining and has a corrosion-proof, recyclable plastic zipper, internal key loop and added zipper pull for ease of use. And the pocket also doubles as a self-storage pouch so you can keep your board shorts handy at all times.

50+ UPF

The Wavefarer Board Shorts feature a sun protection rating of 50+ UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor), which means only 1/50th of the sun's UV rays that fall on the surface will pass through and reach your skin. The sun protection is built-in so, unlike messy sunscreen, it won't wear off or need to be reapplied throughout the day.
