Specs

Product Overview

Easy on the environment and on the person who applies it, water-based Monterey Ablative Antifouling Paint fights marine growth.

Solvent-free Monterey Ablative Antifouling Paint delivers outstanding protection against all types of marine fouling, while remaining friendly to the environment. Along with being easy on the air we breathe, it is also easy on the person who applies it, since it lacks the unpleasant smell of solvent based paints. But don't let the seemingly benign nature of this water-based paint fool you, because with nearly 55% copper, it is decidedly effective against all forms of marine growth.

Monterey's "hard" ablative formula enables it to wear away with use however, it does not wear away as fast as softer ablative paints, which enables it to last longer on higher speed boats. Also, because Monterey wears away with use, less sanding is required when the time comes to repaint. Monterey is compatible with most paints on the market and can be applied over most existing bottom paints in good condition. Monterey can also withstand removal from water without affecting its antifouling abilities. Offered in Red, Blue and Black. Not for sale in States where prohibited by law.

Get the right amount of paint:

Note: The following recommendations are for two coats of paint. All values are approximate.

Boat Type Bottom Paint
10' Dinghy 1 qt.
14' Outboard 1-2 qt.
18' Runabout 2 qt.
20' Sailboat 3 qt.
24' Runabout 3-4 qt.
30' Sailboat 1.5 gal.
32' Cruiser 1.5-2 gal.
36' Auxiliary 2 gal.
40' Cruiser 2.5 gal.
45' Sailboat 3-3.5 gal
50' Sportfisher 4+ gal.

Another way to determine bottom paint quantity is to estimate the approximate surface area of the hull below the waterline, using the following formula:

Length x Beam x .75 = Approximate underwater surface area in square feet.

Each paint has a “theoretical coverage” area, but most paints require at least two coats, so you can expect actual coverage to be no greater than half of the theoretical value.
