Since the time when Dutch settlers established the island’s first teak plantations, Indonesia has been home to the world’s finest teak. Indonesia’s chalky soil conditions and equatorial climate are unlike anywhere else in the world. The Blora-Cepu region of Central Java provides optimal growing conditions for teak, where sustainable plantations are monitored by the government controlled forest management operation Perum Peruhtani. Several university studies prove that Central Java plantation teak is stronger and denser than teak grown in other regions of the world.
Only responsibly and legally harvested Javanese teak are used in West Marine teak products, from plantations where teak is still readily available but responsibly managed so that future generations can continue to benefit from this special natural resource.
West Marine teak products are made from the finest Indonesian teak with no knots, stains, pinholes, or sapwood. Production management practices assure that each piece is made the same way.
