Product Overview

If you find yourself near water with this reel, all you have to remember is:

Cast. Retrieve. Fight. Land. Take selfie with big fish. Repeat.

In addition to being lightweight, smooth and powerful, you have to admit these are strikingly beautiful reels! Yes, Shimano has raised the bar (or bail in this case) with their Stradic CI4+ Spinning Reel series. Built to last for freshwater or inshore saltwater use, these reels feel solid in your hand and even better when there's a fish on the other end of your line!

The exciting technologies Shimano has incorporated in the design of the Stradic CI4+ 4000XGFB (and discussed in greater detail below) include CoreProtect, G Free Body, X-Ship, the Magnumlite Rotor and, at the heart of the reel, Hagane Gearing which provides greater power when reeling and smoother overall operation.

CI4 stands for Carbon Interfusion with the 4 referring to the number of electrons in the Carbon atom. Ultimately, this means CI4 is reinforced Carbon Fiber. The CI4+ is the next generation of Shimano’s CI4 material and 250% stronger. Not only is CI4+ stronger, it's also 20% lighter than Shimano's regular graphite reels. And since it doesn't contain metal, it isn't going to rust.

G Free Body

Shimano has moved the oscillation system from below the drive gear (the typical location) to a spot closer to the rod, thereby moving the center of gravity closer to your hands which helps reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.

The concept of CoreProtect is simple. Provide water resistance without creating a heavy rotation feeling. Three key areas of the reel  require that kind of protection: the roller clutch, the body and the line roller. CoreProtect provides total protection.

The Stradic CI4+ 4000XGFB Spinning Reel gets its increased gearing efficiency and power through the X-Ship system which enables smooth reeling—even under heavy loads (like those you'll experience when fighting very large fish). Input power is transmitted effectively through eliminating twist and rotor flex so you'll enjoy powerful and silky smooth cranking. Shimano's unique mechanism for robust gear engagement uses an enlarged drive gear, optimum positioning of the pinion and drive gears and two-point support of the pinion gear whose ends are supported by bearings. X-Ship also provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This means the gears will stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. An added benefit is that friction between the spool shaft and gear are eliminated. What does that mean for you? Enhanced casting performance that will allow you to use lighter lures and cast farther.

Hagane Gear

This technology features a highly durable, cold-forged aluminum drive gear—the Hagane Gear. No cutting work is applied to the teeth of this drive gear. Instead the entire surface is calculated in minute detail through a special 3D design and then formed by Shimano’s cold forging technology. The result? An amazingly strong gear that gives you that "first time out" smooth, pleasurable feeling over and over again.

Front Drag

When you hook into a hard-fighting fish you'll appreciate the durability, smoothness and performance of the front drag system. By adjusting the drag according to the line weight/strength ahead of time, you won't find yourself needing to change your drag in the middle of reeling in your fish.

Super Stopper II

Shimano eliminates back-play (the handle and bail moving in reverse) with their Super Stopper II anti-reverse that features a one-way roller bearing so you have instant hook-setting power.

AR-C Spool

This patented cold-forged aluminum spool design has a V-shaped spool lip so your line will peel off in smaller loops resulting in longer, more accurate casts. This line management system also minimizes the risk of backlash.

Magnumlite Rotor

This upgraded rotor is 25% lighter than previous styles and provides incredible balance and efficiency.

Aero Wrap II Oscillation

This two-speed oscillation system features a patented worm gear design that moves the spool upward quickly and downward slowly to wind the line in a precise crisscross pattern and reduce line-to-line friction so you'll have smoother, longer casts.

Power Roller

Repeatedly casting and retrieving your line creates unwanted loops and twists during your casts. Stradic CI4+ reels are equipped with the Power Roller line twist reduction system. This special grooved design assures line twist will be reduced by as much as 50%.

S A-RB Bearings

The Shielded Anti-Rust Ball (S A-RB) Bearings found in the Stradic CI4+ are stainless steel ball bearings that are at least 10 times more corrosion resistant than standard stainless steel ball bearings and feature shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility that salt or sand will inhibit their rotation.

Reversible Handle

Easily change your reel from left-handed retrieve to right-handed to suit your preference and fishing style.
