Get this kayak for those times when two paddlers are better than one.
(Or for paddling solo with a lot of gear.)
Our Albatross Sit-Inside Tandem Kayak makes sense in several situations. Although certainly not required, a lot of tandem kayaks are used when paddlers of different skill levels (it helps if at least one has some paddling under their belt) want to enjoy the same on-the-water experience. Tandems are a great way to provide water adventures for physically-challenged friends, your kids that are too young to paddle on their own or your four-legged companion. Sharing some quality time with your significant other can also bring enjoyment so long as one or both of you have an abundance of patience. Of course if both paddlers are experienced, a tandem kayak will be faster than a solo one. You'll also be able to cover greater distances with less effort. One tandem is generally less expensive than two solo kayaks and takes up a lot less storage space. You can even paddle it solo if you want an extra long kayak with lots of storage space for long-distance touring.
Stable and maneuverable, the 14 1/2-foot long Albatross is designed for recreational paddling on all types of flat water—bays, lakes, ponds and rivers with slow-moving current—with ample storage for a full day's adventure. The low center of gravity you'll experience paddling a sit-inside kayak makes it easier to paddle, plus you are more sheltered from cold water. Add an optional spray skirt (sold separately) for even more protection.
The roto-molded polyethylene hull on the Albatross is flexible and impact resistant so it will take the rougher usage that most recreational kayaks endure. Standing up to sun, heat, cold and abrasion, this kayak is maintenance-free and should last for many years.
The large, open cockpit makes it easy to enter and exit. You'll find several details that make this kayak comfortable for most paddlers. The two seats each include a high-back, padded back support that can be adjusted for angle and a padded bottom. The bow seat also slides fore and aft for even more tandem or solo paddling adjustment. The combing is padded where your legs and hands rest.
Shock cord bow and stern rigging give you places to stow items like dry bags (sold separately), jackets and other essentials within easy reach. Toggle-style bow and stern handles not only help with carrying it down to the launch spot or portaging across, they also provide handy tie-off points when you want to break for lunch at a sand bar or dock with other kayaks or boats. A foam bulkhead just aft of the cockpit forms a water resistant storage area in the stern of the boat, accessed through a hatch in the stern deck.
If you don't already own them or it's time to replace the ones you have, remember to order kayak paddles and life jackets (all sold separately) so you'll be ready to splash your kayak as soon as possible!
