If your favorite superhero had an SUP, this would be it!

And you can only get it from West Marine!

Abuse that would be lethal for mere mortal stand-up paddleboards is no match for Jimmy Styks' Scout Extreme. Do you really need an SUP that can take a serious beating? If you frequent rough environments with hazards like submerged rocks, crowded waterways with paddlers that aren't familiar with who has the right of way, own a rental fleet, are a novice paddler paying more attention to your technique than your surroundings or have children (enough said), the answer is a resounding, "Yes!" Designed with the shape of a versatile coastal cruiser, the Scout Extreme performs well in both flatwater and coastal conditions.

Construction

Like other IRONHIDE Series SUPs from Jimmy Styks, the Scout Extreme was developed to be one of the strongest and most durable afloat. While maintaining the performance characteristics of an epoxy board, this enduring SUP features a sturdy polyurethane core encased in shatter-resistant high density polyethylene (HDPE), a combination that is virtually impervious to dings and cracks. To say it is forgiving is an understatement.

Volume

When deciding on an SUP, you'll want to choose a board with adequate volume. This can be the difference between gliding smoothly across the surface or spending your time fighting that very real sinking feeling! Proper volume is influenced by two key variables: rider weight and skill level. With a volume of 206 liters, the recommended rider weight for the Scout Extreme is 225 pounds or less for those with a beginner or novice skill level. Experienced paddlers may comfortably exceed this recommended weight limit.

Shape

The slightly curved shape (viewed from above) of the Scout Extreme provides confidence-inspiring stability for beginners, yet generates a fairly tight turning radius for the maneuverability that more experienced paddlers demand.

Rocker

Rocker refers to the upward "bending" of the nose and tail when the board is lying flat. Boards have varying degrees of rocker depending on the board type. The 6 1/8" nose rocker on the Scout Extreme keeps the board above the water surface when moving forward, while the 4 3/8" tail rocker allows for pivoting during turns and helps elevate the nose higher above the water surface for going over chop and/or wave entry. The result is an SUP that's quite capable in a variety of cruising conditions ranging from calm and smooth to rough and windy.

If you don't already own them, remember to order an SUP paddle and life jacket (both sold separately) so you'll be out on the water quickly!
