From the front, Patagonia's Edisto Dress has a perennially classic, strappy scoop neck style you can't help but adore. Turn around and there's a surprise in store. A sweet little back-strap design takes this dress in a whole new direction. Playful shapes bring attention to your shoulders and back, while the built-in shelf bra with spandex and a comfortable brushed-elastic band add subtle support to the fitted bodice. The Fabric

The Edisto Dress is made of organic cotton and fiber from tree pulp. First a bit about organic cotton. Organic cotton is grown without harmful chemicals with methods that support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improve the quality of soil and often use less water. The yield is high, and the quality of the cotton is equal to or better than conventionally grown cotton. Why isn't all cotton grown organically then? Organic farming is more time consuming, requires more knowledge and skill and (the kicker) costs more. But those of us who are committed to protecting our environment think it’s worth it. TENCEL® is a branded lyocell fiber that comes from the pulp of trees that are grown on sustainably run farms certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which is then dissolved in a non-toxic organic solvent. The solvent is recycled in a closed-loop process--more than 99% of the solvent is recovered and reused. Patagonia ensures that the fabric processing of TENCEL® lyocell fiber does not utilize any harmful chemicals (like formaldehyde).
