Shrink Wrap Tape
Wrap it up and tape it up with shrink wrap and tapes from Doctor Shrink.
Besides the shrink wrap material and a shrink wrap heat gun, shrink wrapping a boat requires various other components to get the job done. These include shrink wrap polyester strapping, shrink wrap buckles, shrink wrap vents, usually a shrink wrap door and several varieties of tape designed specifically for shrink wrapping purposes. These tapes include Heat Shrink Tape (aka Shrink Wrap Tape), Shrink Wrap Preservation Tape and Anti-Chafe Tape.
Heat Shrink Tape (aka Shrink Wrap Tape)
Heat shrink tape is an invaluable component of any shrink wrap system, and is ideal for securing pleats, temporarily sealing tank vents, reinforcing sharp corners, installing doors and repairing holes—even the ones caused by excessive heat. West Marine offers shrink wrap tape in 2”, 3”, 4” and 6” widths with a choice of colors: Clear, White or Blue. Choices also include 180’ rolls of White 9mil Pinked Edge Shrink Wrap Tape in 2”, 3”, 4” and 6” widths. The pinked edge of this tape makes it easier to tear it off of the roll.
Avoid sticky residue with Preservation Tape
Available in White, Blue and Clear, Dr. Shrink’s Preservation Tape, also known as “Hull Tape,” is a tough, conformable, waterproof tape with a strong adhesive that bonds well to most surfaces through a wide range of temperatures. Its advantage over the tape described above is that when removed, it does not leave a residue.
Wrap sharp edges and chafe hazards with Anti-Chafe Tape
Available in two widths to accommodate most shrink wrap jobs, low-tack anti-chafe tape is used to wrap areas on a boat like the edge of windshields and deck hardware that might chafe, perforate or otherwise compromise the shrink wrap job.
