I had a twenty something pound bruce/ claw suddenly pull out of a muddy, grassy bottom in a really severe squall. Boat then dragged it and thirty feet of chain like it was nothing until she fetched up on the other hook, a barnacle anchor, that is no longer made. Boat was 22ft venture.
On retrieval, the claw anchor was found to have a nice ball of stiff, grassy mud held neatly in the curved up fluke. No way it was going to reset, ever. I do not like them for rocky bottoms either. Had the best luck in clean, soft sand. I have also used really big, 60lb plus, claws as permanent moorings with success. The weight helps them and they are more affordable in larger sizes then other anchors. I would not trust the smaller sizes for my area (Keys)

Comments about High-Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

I purchased the 10kg size for my 28ft heavy displacement sail boat and cannot be more pleased after 10 years of anchoring around the Channel Islands of California. It is inexpensive, reliable, and once set, it stays set. My only complaint is the stowing and handling is a bit clumsy due to the shape.

That said, I then purchased a 1kg version for my inflatable hoping for a similar experience. Unfortunately, it will not hold anything under any condition in any bottom unless you find a rock to snag it. I even tried it in the soft dirt of my recently dug garden, at zero angle of scope, and all it will do is plow a nice furrow but never even tries to dig. The 1kg version is worthless.

Comments about High-Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

This anchor fits great on the bow, or stows easily in the boat, no sharp points to catch the feet and ankles. Holds great in all types of conditions. I'd been using the old fluke style, this anchor is lighter, holds better, and lots cheaper. I liked it so much I bought a smaller one to secure the aft! I use the 16.5 model on my Four Winns 245 Vista Cruiser, no problems

I've owned most other types of anchors over the years with varying results. This one reliably sets with all kinds of bottoms, comes back home easily, and snugs solidly and quietly into its nest in the pulpit roller. A great value and a safety must-have!
