Comments about Horizon High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

I purchased the 10kg size for my 28ft heavy displacement sail boat and cannot be more pleased after 10 years of anchoring around the Channel Islands of California. It is inexpensive, reliable, and once set, it stays set. My only complaint is the stowing and handling is a bit clumsy due to the shape.

That said, I then purchased a 1kg version for my inflatable hoping for a similar experience. Unfortunately, it will not hold anything under any condition in any bottom unless you find a rock to snag it. I even tried it in the soft dirt of my recently dug garden, at zero angle of scope, and all it will do is plow a nice furrow but never even tries to dig. The 1kg version is worthless.

Comments about High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

This anchor fits great on the bow, or stows easily in the boat, no sharp points to catch the feet and ankles. Holds great in all types of conditions. I'd been using the old fluke style, this anchor is lighter, holds better, and lots cheaper. I liked it so much I bought a smaller one to secure the aft! I use the 16.5 model on my Four Winns 245 Vista Cruiser, no problems

Best all around off-shore anchor. Holds in the rocks where others won't. I have used these for 20 years and this style is all I carry on board. Super strong too.

I've owned most other types of anchors over the years with varying results. This one reliably sets with all kinds of bottoms, comes back home easily, and snugs solidly and quietly into its nest in the pulpit roller. A great value and a safety must-have!

Comments about Horizon High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

This is the best anchor I have ever used. Traditional fluke anchors would not take hold in sand or clay bottom here in Lake Michigan even with chain. This 11.5 lb claw anchor with 6ft of chain grabs and holds my 22ft Starcraft Islander every time even with less anchor line than recommended. It stores under the seat or hanging on the side panel very well.

Comments about Horizon High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

Pair this anchor with a good bit or bunch of chain, in mud and your are not going to move. I just saw 2-40'+ sit through an 80mph wind storm while rotating around their anchors, due to changing wind direction, and they didn't move. They weren't happy and wouldn't want to do it again but they didn't move. Skimp on the chain size and lenght and you will most likely drag due to lift. When you have a 180 degree wind shift most anchors will break, now the most important thing becomes how fast will it reset. The claw, with good chain, fast. For the money its hard to beat for Chesapeake work. Saw a boat with motor failure and in heavy wind throw a pile of claw and chain out and watched the pile undo itself, the boat swing into the wind, the claw grab and as the bow dipped under load there was no doubt the claw grabbed, fast and hard. I love my claw.
