This is very cheaply made (Plastic base and wind vane) second time out on the water the base snapped and it fell overboard.

Comments about Shakespeare 3' Galaxy Stainless Steel Mast Antenna and Wind Vane:

The connection to the socket is not up to the task. First the unit was turning in the socket but the screw would not fix it anymore, than I fixed it with a lot of tape. Now the unit flew off the mast in medium strong winds.

I would not recommend it to anybody. The wane pointers do not stay where you put them. Whole sleeve rotates and there is no way to prevent it. In addition, whole antenna broke of after sometime. Probable cause is vibration from the wind.

Comments about Shakespeare 3' Galaxy Stainless Steel Mast Antenna and Wind Vane:

Bought this thinking it was the answer to all our problems with VHF reception and wind vane all in one. Worked great for VHF reception , but a month into using it the windvane indicators shifted to one side. Thinking I didn't tighten the set screw enough , at the end of the season when the mast came down. I discovered that the set screw was fine , but the whole plastic sleave covering the antenna spins ! No way to stop it from shifting in the future, its plastic over metal. I don't even think glue will work. Back to the same problem again...!

Although I like the idea of combining the two functions on a single mount, I returned the item without using it because the plastic wind indicator looks so flimsy.

Comments about Shakespeare 3' Galaxy Stainless Steel Mast Antenna and Wind Vane:

I had to redo the radio system and thought this would save the space it did save. However, when mounting it at the harbor it didn't feel like I was over tightening the plastic nut, but I was, and suddenly plop-plop, fizz-fizz, my nice new antenna was sitting at the bottom of the lake! Good antenna, and rig idea, but the plastic is too weak, and doesn't offer the same tactile feedback as a metal thread and nut. I'll try retrofitting a separate antenna and indicator next time!!

I was able to put the antenna up with about 5 minutes of prep and 5 minutes on a bousins chair. So far it works great.

A thick plastic mounting bracket, I would have expected a stainless steel and/or aluminum. I sure hope it last??
