Perfect Radio for communicating with race committee and other vessels for inland small sailboat racing_ 14'-22'. Although my only "Con" was no wrist strap or lanyard, there is a convenient hole on the belt clip to which one can attach an inexpensive lanyard/wrist strap, (which I did). It works perfectly. Great volume and clarity even on very windy days! Battery seems to hold charge forever. Switchable 1 or 5 watt for extended battery life. I use it mostly on 1 Watt setting for lake racing. It's still crystal clear and plenty loud for my use. Having also done plenty of W/L, "beer can" racing and distance ocean racing on big boats, I would imagine this radio to be equally effective on the 5 Watt setting. It's a "real" marine radio that is TRULY WATERPROOF AND FLOATS, made by a reputable marine radio manufacturer, at an unbelievable price point!

The users guide uses tiny symbols for the buttons on the transceiver. While the text in the guide is easy to read even with my 62 year old eyes I cannot read the text on the buttons in the guide even with my best reading glasses. This means I have to guess at which button to push based on the text I can read. In some cases this is impossible since you have to press two buttons for some operations. A work around is to download the users guide from their web site which I have done and then zoom 200% so I can read it. No-one should have to do this. Before I buy another SH transceiver I will inspect the guide first.

Comments about Standard Horizon HX150 Floating Handheld VHF Radio:

I wanted a floating HH VHF as a backup to our fixed mount radio. This was the least expensive and readily available when I needed it for a planned trip. We haven't owned it long but it's simple to use and has performed well. Having a HH has proven to be more convenient than I expected as well, allowing someone else to easily handle the radio while I'm busy at the helm.

Comments about Standard Horizon HX150 Floating Handheld VHF Radio:

          Signal weak
          Bearly one mile from shore
They're ok to carry for distress signal
Where I paddle there are many lobster boats and fisherman
So I could hail one in a serous emergency
our plan was to leave one radio at the shore house and take one out on the kayaks but they really only work in line of sight so I don't find them very useful
          For my application :(

Good little radio for boating , works fine .
Only problem is it can only be charged at home on the base only so no charging on overnight trips.
