We bought one of these units and ran it all winter last year. We placed in the salon of our 36' Carver. It was amazing how it kept the air moving ever so slightly and by putting out just a bit of warmth it kept the cabin fresh. This fall we purchased another one to go in the aft cabin...and we are running both now. They really keep the air fresh and circulating. These units are perfect for boats left in the water or stored on land. They are not heaters...but they are amazing dehumidifiers! We stay over on our boat even in the winter months as it is our getaway...and now when we enter the boat even after a couple fo weeks, its fresh and my wife can't smell any foul odors...and that's a good thing. We're sold!

I installed one of these less than a year ago and it lasted less than a year, it appears to have overheated even though it was in an open area on the floor of the boat. Exchanged it with no hassle. Hope this one lasts a lot longer.
I use it in my covered 22' open bow boat which is stored in my driveway in a coastal city. Not sure when the first one gave up but I had to clean the under side of the cover as it had quite a bit of mildew. Hoping this one lasts a long time and does the job to prevent mildew from forming. If you purchase one, check it from time to time to make sure it's working properly and preventing mold build up.
I was pleased with the no hassle return.

Comments about Air Dryer with Fan, Dehumidifier:

As a fulltime liveaboard I encounter many hurdles, condensation is one of them and the drip that follows. I awoke one fall morning to everything around me damp and at first I thought I had a leak somewhere but when I looked outside I realized that it hadn't rained. It turns out that any surface within 5-10 foot of where I slept was covered in Condensation Drip. I had heard about the effectiveness of this but was doubtful. I was happy to see that it drew less power then a 100 Watt lightbulb, which is important when you liveboard. Let me tell you this unit worked wonders. Since I have bought it I have never experienced that Condensation Drip around my boat at all. I use one in the forward stateroom and another in the master stateroom. I even got my parents to start using them in their Florida home particularly in the laundry rooms where damp air collects in the summer, they have not experienced any mold or mildew since. The unit cuts off that drip just as it begins to form, making it a great investment!

This is my second one. The first one had a plastic blade on it, someone must have knocked it over while it was hot, one fan blade broke.

NOW it has an aluminum blade, runs great, but the motor stopped spinning the fan after two years while the unit is upright, upside down works great. Lubricated the motor with some penetrating oil, runs like new.

For something they charge so much for and spend so little to make, you think the motor could be a little higher quality?

(It does produce heat, GREAT at circulating air and keeping the mold out of the boat.

      circulates humidity, doesn't remove it.

I have a small standup A/C in my boat and it truly does remove humidity. There is a hose at the bottom of the unit that I feed into a drain hole in the floor of the cabin going down into the sump of the head. When it fills up, the float dumps it overboard. One time the hose wasn't placed properly in the sump so the water went instead into the bilge. When I discovered it the bilge had 2" of water in it. There is a lot of water in the air in humid Florida and this unit won't REMOVE humidity, it will merely circulate it. It might help a bit with mildew but if you want to remove humidity, get a true dehumidifier or A/C and feed the water out of your boat.

This unit has been in my 60 cubic feet Ft Knox gun safe for over 10 years, running 24/7. At some point, the fan quit working but the heater still works keeping my guns dry and rust free. I was a little concerned that without the fan, it might get too hot, but I can still place my hand on top of the unit even without a fan. Love it.

I just purchased this new unit 10 days ago (9-15-2014) to replace the same West Marine product I bought prior to Y2K. The original has been plugged-in 24/7 SINCE 1999...15 YEARS! I only bought this new one because it seemed a good idea as the old one remains perfectly serviceable.

I leave my 23ft sailboat unattended up to 3 months at a time. When I return I have to go through and clean the mold dust and spots. Not to mention the moldy smell. This machine has removed these problems completely.

Not only a useful tool to keep mildew away, but also extremely durable. I have many friends using it for years. I bought mine about 8 years ago. It has been on 24/7 for 6 months every year since. I paid about 50-60 dollars for it back then, so it was definitely worth the money.
