I am so happy to see this design of ceramic heater again! My old ones are all over 10yrs old, some 15+. These cubes (sometimes call "disc furnaces" because of the element shape) are far better than the so-called "ceramic" heaters found in department stores for a fraction of the price. There is a reason why those are so cheap. They simply are not in the same class.

These cubes produce a vast amount of very warm air - which is great for heating a room or a boat. They are noticeably heavier than heaters of the same size found in department stores at a fraction of the cost. Again, there is a reason why those are cheaper.

These cubes are not silent. The fan passes a lot of air over the elements, which comes out very warm - but not hot. The design will not allow the elements to cook. As they get hotter the current flowing into them is reduced. But so much air is passed over them that the heat is drawn away, not allowing the elements to get too hot. Should the airflow be restricted the elements will heat and the current flowing to them will be reduced, all the way down. These cubes do have a thermostat of sorts. Once you reach desired room/space temp turn the knob down to where the cube is just running. From then on it will use sufficient current to get there, up to its maximum if needed.

Compared to the broad, flat (and old technology) heater that West sells, that unit has more specific temperature and power settings, and is highly resistant to knock-overs because of its wide footprint. This cube, however, puts out far, far more heat. While its design and weight makes it resistant to tipping over, you could still trip over them. So you might want to secure them to a broad plate of some kind if used on a boat.

I love the heater EXCEPT that the thermostat will not turn off the heater when the cabin reaches optimum temperature. Yes, it throttles way down but doesn't turn off. If you have a small cabin, you may not be able to leave the heater on all night; it may put out too much heat even at the lowest setting. You have to turn it off manually. I confirmed this behavior with West Marine.

I ordered this heater after Christmas - not exactly boating weather in Chicago . When our house furnace failed with -11 temperatures outside , this heater kept a bathroom and hall at a tolerable temperature - impressive . Looking forward to using it on the boat.

Heats the cabin on my 30' sailboat as good or better than the old standby flat heater from WM. Only used it a few times so unsure about longevity but it seermns solid.

                      Comments about Ceramic Cabin Heater:

I really wanted this heater to work. Unfortunately the first one I purchased failed when first powered on. I returned it to my West Marine store and received a replacement. Replacement has worked great. I now have 2. One thing I have found is that the first few hours of running it puts off a burning "new" smell. I recommend that you run it for a couple of hours outside to burn in the heater. After that it is good to go in a small space and no burning smell. It is very small and will fit on a shelf. The only reason it doesn't get a 5 is having to burn in the heater when first purchased.

I purchased for a 32 Carver Montego cabin, but when it came in I tried it first in the office.
It made my office (in basement of home) so much warmer it has not left. Now I am going to purchase one for the boat. The best ceramic heater I have ever owned. Highly recommend it. No problems with it.

Probably the best heater for marine use

                      Comments about Ceramic Cabin Heater:

I researched cabin heaters for some time before I got this one. I have to say I really like it. First, it's small. The other big thing is the thermostat. It regulates temps better than most because it varies the fan speed and heating element, rather than simple "on" and "off" cycling. Another review complained about this, but maybe they don't understand that this is the unit's primary virtue as a heater. You just set the thermostat and you're done. It just puts out the right volume of heat constantly without having the ups and downs of temperatures like you have when your reverse cycle heat/AC goes on and off. The temperature is maintained pretty well. It's also quiet enough that you won't notice it unless it's cranked up all the way. I put it on the lowest point in the cabin, which on my boat is under the dinette. When there, it is unobtrusive and I can forget about it. That way, the air layer near your feet is warm and the rising heat takes care of the rest. It also does a decent job of heating the cockpit when I have the camper top up. The only drawback is that it sucks up the amps. I have to remember to keep the other systems in check when this is on or I start popping the main breaker. For example, if the heater is running, and something is on the stove, and then the hot water heater cycles, I'm probably at the limit.
