Choosing paddle length
When considering paddle length, a good rule to follow is to choose a paddle that's 30cm or roughly a foot taller than you when holding it upright. Also, make sure to take into account the width of your kayak in addition to your height. The greater the kayak width, the more paddle length is needed to reach the water. If you have a sit-on-top kayak and your seat is raised six or more inches above the base, add about three inches to your paddle length.

A great composite paddle for the money. Composite paddles are fantastic for minimizing fatigue, letting you last longer trips. The down side to composite is that they can be more brittle. I tend to be a paddler and also tend to use the paddle as a boat hook at times of literally "shoving off". Not a good idea with these composite paddles. I mean, they aren't even designed for it, so I could see breaking easily there. I've personally not had any issues with breakage or even fear of, just wanted to point the characteristic of composite. I will still buy composite!

I have owned 3 of these and broken 2 , the last time when my wife and I got caught too far off shore on St. John, paddling our Advanced Elements Straight Edge II. We were in a stiff wind, and were forced to "abandon ship" at a remote beach where the wind blew us to because 1 paddle wouldn't allow us to make headway into the wind. I plan to buy 2 new paddles, looking for the most durable packable paddles I can find.

Wish I had read these reviews before buying this paddle.
Same experience as others, this paddle broke very easily. The paddle end snapped off

The plus side was West Marine exchanged it for a different one plus a West Marine gift card for the difference in price.

Great Company, but the paddle is very brittle, go with a different type.

i gave it a 4 because the botton corrodes in salt water use, i keep it feathered so i dont care its stuck but some may have problems with that, otherwise i love it, have used it on many tips

I own four of these paddles (one for each kayak) and they always outperform my expectations. Lightweight, easy to handle, low fatigue and minimal drip. They are a great value if you paddle for extended periods.

I have this paddle and an aluminum shaft paddle and you can truly feel the difference in how quickly you get tired when using both This paddle is strong light and durable, Ive had it for nearly five years and go out at least once a week during the warmer months and this paddle still hasn't failed me. Highly recommended for all kayakers out there
