This is not a reading light. But, after the third year of usage we have replaced all incandescent and halogen lights in the boat with this lamp. Very little power drain and adequate light for galley work, nav work, general lighting. The cover is twist and lock, not snap on and those complaining might not understand that as covers are fine on our boat.

Installed on our after deck overhead.
Area is about 10x10 and four cannot light this space adequately at night. Suggest the $49 Stainless Steel Led not this dim thing. Probably the reason why wattage and lumens are listed on the other lights but not on this thing. We too experienced the cover falling off as in other reviews. Yes you turn it to secure it but the slightest touch seems to dislodge it. Also after a couple years the cover becomes very brittle and tends to crack and break up in your hand.

Comments about West Marine Economy LED Dome Light:

Buyer beware. The lumens measured on this particular light are very low when compared to other led lights in this category. There are 4 total led lights for the red and around six for the white. They would have been better served to devote all led's to either white or red and not try to cover both colors. You get what you pay for in this particular light.

Detentes are not properly measured. Bezel falls off the housing at the slightest wave motion.

Comments about West Marine Economy LED Dome Light:

This is good for a v-berth, under counter, or small setee. It's not a primary light. Works great for me in my 22' sailboats v-berth. I didn't know what to expect on the color temp, but it's fairly warm. I hate bright/ultra white interior lights. This is a nice light, not super warm, but not ultra white either. It's about the cheapest light of it's type available.

Comments about West Marine Economy LED Dome Light:

I have a 1985 C & C Mark V and the lights tend to lose connection. Also, I decided to switch over to all LED lights everywhere on my boat. So, the lights that are constantly losing connections, I am replacing with this low price good quality light which is an LED and has red and white light....great feature. As far as the cover falling off, I just put some 3M 5200 on it...just a dab here and there and that seems to work. It's a VERY minor problem compared to the benefit of the product.

I purchased these to replace existing interior lighting. Cheap frosted housing cover comes off in heavy seas or rocking. White light is not very bright with the frosted lens. There needs to be a better one priced between this [$]item and the high end $85 top end light.

With the low power usage of the LEDs I don't mind using the light all nite while sailing or at anchor. The soft RED light function allows you to see without ruining your nite vision
