I needed a way to on and off a Grady-White 20' Center Console while it was on our boat lift. It is perfect for that task. It is light, the bottom standoffs are the correct distance near the waterline, it is made from a sturdy plastic, and it secures itself over the side of the boat.

The standoffs were too short making the ladder useless on our boat.
I purchase a piece of 1" aluminum tubing from the hardware store and replaced the original 4 3/4 inch standoffs with 10" tubes that work perfectly on our boat.
Instructions:
Dis-aseemble the origianl standoffs, examining how they are built and function.
Drill the two holes on each end of the new tubing. I used the holes in the ladder for my guide. Use a 5/16 drill bit.
Cut each end of the tubing to your length.
Reinstall the button clips in the newly cut tubing.
Reinstall the protective end caps on the end of the new tubing that presses against the hull when in use.
Reinstall the big rubber end caps.
Push the buttons in and slide the new tubing into the brackets on the ladder, just like they were originally set.
Your all set.

Basically you are just duplicating the construction of the original standoff tubes with ones you'll cut to your own length.
It's very simple and takes less than an hour or so....and, i'm someone who has to call in help just to change the paper towel roll in the kitchen!

Comments about Portable Gunwale-Mount Boarding Ladders:

I bought this for my 22ft dual console boat, which I use mostly for diving. As it came without a ladder I needed on quickly to make getting in and out of the water easier on my passengers. It installs (hangs) easily, but as it is made to float, it tends to shift around a lot on the gunnel unless you have weight on it. The weight capacity and its grip on the gunnel aren't the greatest so I take my gear off before mounting. It's held up well thus (about 3 weeks and 6 trips). The cap on the gunnel hook just refuses to stay on though. (Minor concern). Overall decent quality for the price if you're just looking for something temporary.

Comments about Portable Gunwale-Mount Boarding Ladders:

I like the ladder but it does not fit properly on my boat. not the ladders fault at all. even though i am returning this i still think it is a good product if fits your boat properly. I had an older, smaller version of this type ladder on my previous boat and it fit/worked well for many years.
