In Florida the environment for optics is harsh and the sealed optics for these binoculars is a plus. I use them a lot in the field for astronomy and for general use and I keep them in the truck for whatever. Well recommended for the budget conscious and well recommended for those who want a quality image that doesn't fatigue the eyes.

Second pair...... first pair the right barrel snapped off under VERY light and NORMAL usage. Returned to WM and made noise, and they semi-reluctantly replaced it as it was a gift without a dated receipt (got at Xmas, used in July, broke). Used perhaps 6 times, this year took them out of their case and they were broken again. Clearly a design flaw. Very dissatisfied.

Comments about West Marine Raiatea 7 x 50 Binoculars:

These are by far the best binoculars for the money I have ever seen. Bought them at the beach when I discovered something wrong with my 30 year old binocs. Couldn't be any happier.

Comments about West Marine Raiatea 7 x 50 Binoculars:

The binoculars did not work right out of the box. Seemed to be some problem with the lens or prism alignment. When looking through both as designed you got sort of double vision. When looking through either side with the other eye closed it was fine. Person at the store that took them back from me had stated they had quite a few returns for same problem.

Comments about West Marine Raiatea 7 x 50 Binoculars:

I bought these on sale two seasons ago. Right from the get go I had problems looking through them. Double vision so I thought it's me so I took them out of the boat and stored them. Yesterday, my son and I were getting the boat ready for another season and he looked through them. "I found your problem! The barrel is cracked throwing it off". I decided to check the warranty and looked at the reviews... Couldn't believe people are having the same problem! I tried my brothers Nikon binocs and they were perfect. I'm going to call customer service on Monday to see what West Marine has to say since it's an obvious problem. Wish me luck people! I can't honestly recommend this product to anyone.

Comments about West Marine Raiatea 7 x 50 Binoculars:

Good value till the right barrel broke off. Thought it was my fault till I read others had same problem. They served well, used fair amount on sailboat in Caribbean. The other concern is corrosion of metal hardware. The center focus knob rubber covering has actually split due to corrosion and the screw holding the center adjustment screw is just a rust staini now.

These lasted about 2 seasons. The lense covers fall apart and the lenses themselves started separating from the housing. I would buy another pair that were not all one piece.

I've had these for over 2 years and have never been quite satisfied with the focus. Not bad but not as sharp as a pair of less expensive Bushnells I have. They have been durable and remained well sealed. There's a fair amount of flex in the eyepieces which may be the cause. An OK deal on sale under $100.

I keep these binoculars in my upper helm and at an easy reach. While navigating, my eyes aren't what they used to be so seeing buoys and making out demarcations are what I use them for as a critical need.
