I am a new boat owner and wasn't sure what I needed to get the job done. The salesman was very knowledgeable and didn't try to push something on me I did not need.....I like that philosophy...!!!

Comments about West Marine VHF160 Floating 6W Handheld VHF Radio:

Good deal for the price. Easy to use, long battery life, and light weight. The one con I have is that the clip for the unit came off easily so you have to be careful not to bump it the wrong way and lose your radio if you have it clipped on.

          Service and delivery comments:

Bought it at the retail store. The service was excellent.

Comments about West Marine VHF160 Floating 6W Handheld VHF Radio:

I was looking for a backup VHF radio for my coastal craft. I boat mainly in a protected bay area and
wanted something compact but full featured. Price was a consideration as well as it being able to
float. I do have kayaks and will take it while doing that. For the price and warranty, it was hard to find
              a radio that would compare.

The Sail Training Program at the Tiverton Yacht Cub has switched all the radios to the 160.
If you want to find the best way to trash a vhf radio, give it to a sailing instructor. That goes for the chase boats too.

In the 1990s I was a liveaboard sailboat cruiser and my Icom handheld cost over $500 and did no float. This radio is light, more powerful, and more ergonomic. I installed it on a center console fishing boat and it is just right.
