Comments about West Marine VHF160 Floating 6W Handheld VHF Radio:

I was looking for a backup VHF radio for my coastal craft. I boat mainly in a protected bay area and
wanted something compact but full featured. Price was a consideration as well as it being able to
float. I do have kayaks and will take it while doing that. For the price and warranty, it was hard to find
    a radio that would compare.

The Sail Training Program at the Tiverton Yacht Cub has switched all the radios to the 160.
If you want to find the best way to trash a vhf radio, give it to a sailing instructor. That goes for the chase boats too.

Comments about West Marine VHF160 Floating 6W Handheld VHF Radio:

In the 1990s I was a liveaboard sailboat cruiser and my Icom handheld cost over $500 and did no float. This radio is light, more powerful, and more ergonomic. I installed it on a center console fishing boat and it is just right.

Comments about West Marine VHF160 Floating 6W Handheld VHF Radio:

This unit "performed as advertised" I alway worried about the range, but the 6W system has more than enough.

              Service and delivery comments:

I had an "out of the box" issue with the power button on the VHF. West Marine replaced it promptly and painlessly.

Easy to use, great reception, but the belt clip does not function is you are jumping from vessel to vessel or vessel to dock, buy a radio belt holster.
