I use this while Kayak fishing, not sure if my unit is possessed or not. I charged it one time and it has been on 7 trips full blast xmitting/rec reports and Coast Guard traffic. Has not lost a bar of battery.

I am amazed. Was just buying this as a radio for a fishing tournament. Now it is my go to device if there is any trouble on the water.

I was told that the transmission distance could be any where from 3 to 6 miles So I bought this product. I was told that the distance is calculated as follows 1 mile distance per watt of out put so on a clear day and on a 6 watt transmission I could expect to be able to communicate any where from 3 to 6 miles at best well that would be just fine for my intended purpose of use but only to realize that my ability to communicate on a clear day was only 3/4 of a mile I confirmed the measured by using my on board garmen navigation system that I find to be quite reliable I purchased this product on July 27 then gave it as a gift to my wife I was on vacation from July 27 to August 2. Finally got to use the radio only to be disappointed. I would like to return/exchange the radio for a better /stronger model. Can you help me thank you James Rodgers

Bought this as a radio to use aboard rental sailboats. Works great. Good reception and features of more expensive alternatives. I'd buy it again.

Needs a lanyard!

Comments about West Marine VHF75 Floating 6W Handheld VHF Radio:

Works well, but like many others I do prefer a knob for squelch/volume. However, the lock feature is nice; no surprise channel or volume changes.
Biggest problem, by far, is the completely useless and insecure belt clip. I knew it wasn't a good idea, but in desperation I used this to hang it from a lifeline during a sailboat race tonight. Kept looking at it, thinking "I really should have attached a short lanyard with a d-clip so I could positively lock it to the lifeline, or my pfd, or..." and sure enough, it jumped overboard during a tack. I'm sure it's floating and the battery still working, but it's long gone.
Even the cheap old Atlantis I still use has a good, spring loaded belt clip with a "J" shape that has never fallen off a belt or lifeline after 14 years.
