We use it to row from the beach to our boat that's on a buoy. We like that it can be moved easily along the beach.

Comments about West Marine WaterTender 9.4 Rowing Dinghy:

Rows well for its length and shape. Also runs well with 30lb. trolling motor. Very stable. Some slapping noise going into a chop. Cartopping takes some planning but works OK on my Nissan Juke.

Comments about West Marine WaterTender 9.4 Rowing Dinghy:

For us it was a good base to turn into a toy boat for the kids. We put on custom snap on seat cushions and carpeting and a Bimini top. Also added a 2 hp Yamaha 4 stroke outboard for the kids to explore the coves and get away on there own. Anyone older would want a least a 4 hp but it will weigh it down without a body upfront. And I wanted a light weight motor to put on and off at will. Electric would be better to avoid the weight distribution issue. Gave it 4 stars due to being a little flexible and not as streamlined for cutting through the water like a v hull but that would make it less stable for kids use.

Comments about West Marine WaterTender 9.4 Rowing Dinghy:

It is a stable dinghy with the Tri-hull configuration. I use it as a tender to get to my moored sailboat. I purchased it last week and my initial impression is good. I normally would wait and do more testing before writing a review, but I discovered a major drawback that was not mentioned in any of the other reviews. That is the engine mount on the transom is to thick for my 2.5 hp Merc 2 stroke engine. I am trying to contact the manufacturer to find a solution without voiding the warranty. Also, as stated in another review, the storage compartment is a nice feature, but it is not waterproof.

This is the perfect boat for the small lake on our property. Since my husband now has balance issues, we felt this was safer than the canoe he was previously using. Thanks so much for all the help West Marine personnel! You made his birthday very special!

Comments about West Marine WaterTender 9.4 Rowing Dinghy:

I use this boat to get into bodies of water where gas engines are prohibited. I have a 55lb thrust trolling motor on it and it "Gits Right Along".
Very stable for a little boat. I weigh 230lbs and I can stand up in it to fish and operate the trolling motor. Three of my friends who have been in the boat (not all at once) are totally impressed with the layout, stability, durability, portability (fits right in back of my pickup truck) and light weight of this boat.
Can't find anything wrong with this boat.
              For a little boat it's a WINNER.

I also have an inflatable dinghy but this one feels more 'boat' and is easy to get out of the water.

Comments about West Marine WaterTender 9.4 Rowing Dinghy:

We have had this boat for 3 years... and for our use it works very well. We cruise in the NW which often requires a stern tie to shore which is sometime encrusted with barnicles, oysters or muscles. An inflatable would be a liability. This dinghy is indestructible. When not rowing, we power it with a 3.5HP outboard. A very nice combination.
There are a few things we would improve. Load capacity is fairly low... "3 persons or 359 lbs". I weigh 180 lbs myself which renders it to be a two person boat. Four adults would definitely be out of the question. Secondly, there is no way to drain the boat while on davits like you could with most inflatables. It rains a lot here in the NW and the added weight of rainwater could compromise our davits. Long term storage on davits is not possible because of this issue.
But for our use, we would buy it again. If we were cruising in less protected waters, we would go with an RIB.

We live on a large lake in GA and cannot have boats with gas engines. This boat was perfect for my children to use in the lake. Very sturdy. Cleans really easy. Very light for taking out of the water.
