Shop Anchoring, Docking & Mooring Gear at West Marine

Whether you’re outfitting a small runabout or a cruising yacht, West Marine has everything you need to anchor safely and dock with confidence. From anchor rodes and chain to dock lines, boat fenders, and mooring gear, our comprehensive selection helps secure your boat in every scenario—from beach landings to crowded harbors.

Complete Anchoring Systems Built to Hold

A reliable anchoring system includes more than just the anchor. You’ll want the correct combination of anchor chain, rope, shackles, and possibly a windlass to manage deployment. Choose a fluke-style anchor for sandy bottoms or a plow or claw anchor for more rugged seabeds. Add an anchor roller and chain stopper for easy retrieval and secure storage underway.

Choose the Right Docking Gear for Your Boat

West Marine offers an extensive range of dock lines, bumpers, and accessories. From three-strand to braided nylon, our dock lines absorb shock and keep your boat steady. Taylor Made® fenders and dock wheels provide vital protection, especially in rough water or busy marinas. We also offer telescoping boat hooks, rub rail, and cleats for all your docking needs.

Upgrade Your Dock with Safe and Practical Accessories

Dock ladders, lighting, steps, and bumpers add safety and convenience when boarding or moving around your dock. For waterfront homeowners, we carry dock floats, construction hardware, and lighting options to build or upgrade your private dock setup. Dock carts and boxes make gear transport and storage more efficient.

Mooring Essentials for Reliable Offshore or Seasonal Holding

If you moor your boat seasonally or overnight, browse our premium mooring gear including lines, buoys, chocks, and pendants. We offer marine-grade components designed for maximum holding strength and weather resistance. For boats without windlasses, we also carry mooring hooks, poles, and chain hooks to simplify the tie-up process.

From anchoring to docking and mooring, West Marine’s trusted gear ensures a safe and secure boating experience no matter where your next trip takes you.

Anchor & Docking FAQ

Fluke or Danforth anchors work well in sand, while mushroom anchors are ideal for mud. Rocky or coral bottoms benefit from plow or claw anchors that can grip uneven terrain. For gravel or shingle seabeds, plow anchors are typically most effective.

Use nylon for its strength and stretch, and size the line appropriately for your boat. A good rule is 1/8 inch of line diameter per 9 feet of boat length. For scope, a 7:1 ratio (line to depth) is ideal.

A windlass simplifies anchor deployment and retrieval, increases safety by reducing manual lifting, and handles heavy chains and anchors with ease. It’s especially useful for larger vessels or deep-water anchoring.

Clean fenders regularly with soap and water, inspect for wear or leaks, and store out of direct sunlight to avoid UV damage. Keep them properly tied off to prevent chafing against the dock or hull.

Nylon is preferred for elasticity and strength. Choose line diameter based on boat length (1/8" per 9 feet). Length should be 2/3 your boat’s length for bow/stern lines and full boat length for spring lines.

Use fenders, dock bumpers, and rub rail to cushion impacts. Approach slowly and prepare crew with boat hooks. Consider environmental factors like wind and current when planning your docking approach.
