Coveralls

DIY Boaters Shop Coveralls at West Marine

Many boating projects involve chemicals and particulates that can be hazardous to our health. For this reason, West Marine offers products to protect our skin, eyes, lungs and other parts of the body from injury.

Personal protection is especially important for projects such as bottom and topsides painting which can expose applicators to sanding dust and hazardous chemicals. To shield applicators from these hazards, West Marine offers lightweight coveralls or painting suits, shoe covers and head socks.

Types of Coveralls

West Marine offers polypropylene SMS and Tyvec painting suits. In terms of breathability and resistance to particles and chemicals, each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Comparison of Tyvec to SMS

Compared to Tyvec coveralls, SMS coveralls offer greater breathability, which makes them more comfortable when worn in hot, humid climates. However, while Tyvec coveralls are not as breathable as SMS coveralls, they offer greater abrasion and chemical resistance. For this reason they are preferred by seasoned professional and do-it-yourself applicators alike.

Features common to the SMS and Tyvec coveralls that West Marine sells are a hooded design with elastic wrists and ankles. When worn with shoe covers, a head sock and an appropriate respirator, they provide protection against sanding dust and paints from head to foot.
