An SUP for the explorer in you!

Your next water-based adventure can start on the other side of the world or just out your back door (if you're lucky enough to live that close to the water). With the Jimmy Styks Scout Expedition Stand-Up Paddleboard you'll be ready! Offering incredible stability and a hybrid shape that's comfortable cruising and touring in flat water environments or playing in the ocean surf. Tracking is improved in calmer conditions when you attach (quite easily we might add if you're not in the water) the included stabilizer fin. Novice paddlers will quickly wonder why they didn't take up stand-up paddleboarding sooner!

"A journey of a thousand nautical miles begins with a single stroke."

~ Quote from the copywriter who wishes he owned this board

Construction

The Scout Expedition features Jimmy Styks' vacuum bagged construction that offers both beauty and strength. Starting with an expanded polystyrene blank core with a 1/4" stringer, a real bamboo veneer is sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass/epoxy glass applied to the deck and a two-layer fiberglass/epoxy glass schedule applied to the bottom. A final clear coat is applied and polished to a beautiful, lasting luster.

Deck

Beginning with a large traction pad that provides a comfortable nonslip surface for changing paddling positions as conditions and your intentions dictate, the Scout Expedition adds a bungee tiedown system so you can secure extra gear like a dry bag (sold separately) or other essentials. You'll also find a handy camera mount conveniently located at the nose so you can attach your POV camera (sold separately) to record your epic adventures or capture incredible selfies doing what you love. There's also a plug at the back end for your leash (not the one you attach to your dog, but rather the one that's included and keeps you from getting separated from your board when taking an unexpected dip in the water).

Venting Handle

There's a venting handle in the middle of the deck with a self-breathing cap that features a Gore-Tex® membrane that allows air to permeate freely through the vent while preventing water and other debris from entering the board. This minimizes damage caused by pressurization and heat. You'll want to open the vent completely after each use and tighten the cap before you launch it. The venting handle also features a general purpose secure utility bar which, when used in combination with a standard bike lock or padlock, can potentially thwart unconscionable neanderthals (and rude friends that are more acquaintances than friends) from taking joy rides when your board is left unattended.

Volume

When deciding on an SUP, you'll want to choose a board with adequate volume. This can be the difference between gliding smoothly across the surface or spending your time fighting that very real sinking feeling! Proper volume is influenced by two key variables: rider weight and skill level. The displacement hull on the Scout Expedition is designed for stability and buoyancy. With a volume of 221 liters, the recommended rider weight limit is 275 pounds for those with a beginner or novice skill level. Experienced paddlers may find they can even exceed this recommended weight limit!

Shape

The curved shape (viewed from above) and the displacement nose on the Scout Expedition does a good job cutting through choppy waters and its wide and stable platform is ready to transport you on long sessions cruising out on the bay.

Rocker

Rocker refers to the upward "bending" of the nose and tail when the board is lying flat. Boards have varying degrees of rocker depending on the board type. The 5" nose rocker on the Scout Expedition keeps the board above the water surface for planing small surf, while the 3" tail rocker allows for pivoting during turns. You'll find this board is great for beginners and riders crossing over from flatwater cruising to ocean paddling.

If you don't already own them, remember to order an SUP paddle and a life jacket (both sold separately) so you'll be out on the water quickly!
