If you haven't tried fishing from an SUP yet, this is an easy board to learn on!

Like the large wading bird it is named after, Jimmy Styks' Blue Heron Fishing SUP is made for fishing calm lakes, salt marshes, the Intracoastal Waterway, lazy rivers or any other flatwater setting you can find. Designed to haul you and all your fishing gear, it's also perfect for overnight camping trips to those little uninhabited islands you've been dying to explore. Grab your fisherman's milk crate, ice chest, extra rod and bait bucket, strap them down and let that epic fishing trip begin! With its rock solid stability, novice paddlers will find the Blue Heron very forgiving and easy to get going on.

Construction

The Blue Heron features Jimmy Styks' standard construction, a method that offers maximum strength with quality materials. Starting with an expanded polystyrene blank core with a 1/4" stringer, a three-layer fiberglass/epoxy glass schedule is applied to the deck for a greater standing support while a lighter two-layer fiberglass/eposy glass schedule is applied to the bottom for minimized board weight. A final clear coat is applied and polished to an attractive, lasting luster.

Deck

Beginning with a full deck traction pad that provides a comfortable nonslip surface so you can really dig in when trying to get back in ahead of bad weather, the Blue Heron adds an integrated bungee strapping system in front, plus LOTS of attachment points to ensure your cooler, tacklebox and whatever else you stow on top of your board STAYS on top of your board. You'll also find a handy camera mount conveniently located at the nose so you can attach your POV camera (sold separately) and record your encounters with trophy fish. There's also a plug at the back end for your leash (not the one you attach to your dog, but rather the one that's included and keeps you from getting separated from your board if you take an unexpected dip in the water).

Venting Handle

There's a venting handle in the middle of the deck with a self-breathing cap that features a Gore-Tex(R) membrane that allows air to permeate freely through the vent while preventing water and other debris from entering the board. This minimizes damage caused by pressurization and heat. You'll want to open the vent completely after each use and tighten the cap before you launch it. The venting handle also features a general purpose secure utility bar which, when used in combination with a standard bike lock or padlock, can potentially thwart thieves on those occasions when your board is left unattended.

Volume

When deciding on an SUP, you'll want to choose a board with adequate volume. This can be the difference between gliding smoothly across the surface or spending your time fighting that very real sinking feeling! Proper volume is influenced by two key variables with a fishing/adventure style SUP: combined rider and cargo weight, plus skill level. The planing hull on the Blue Heron is designed for maximum capacity. With a volume of 254 liters, the recommended weight limit is 310 pounds for those with a beginner or novice skill level. Experienced paddlers may find they can even exceed this recommended weight limit!

Shape

The extra wide platform on the Blue Heron provides the stability you need to transport you and your gear on day-long adventures in any flatwater location.

Rocker

Rocker refers to the upward "bending" of the nose and tail when the board is lying flat. Boards have varying degrees of rocker depending on the board type. The 6 1/2" nose rocker on the Blue Heron keeps the board above the water surface when moving forward, particularly when carrying extra weight, while the 2" tail rocker allows for pivoting during turns.

Remember to order an SUP paddle and a life jacket (both sold separately) so you'll be able to start fishing right away!
