Anglers who fish from a boat know how essential it is to have a landing net. Not just any net, but one made of the right material and with the right diameter, depth, mesh size and handle length to get the job done.
For anglers who practice catch and release, the net must also be made of the right type of material. There are three basic materials for nets: knotted nylon mesh, knotless mesh and rubber mesh. Knotted nylon mesh nets can easily harm a netted fish; and they also can easily snag on a hook. Compared to knotted nylon, knotless mesh nets are far gentler which makes them a good choice for catch and release. But the best choice for catch and release are rubber mesh nets which traumatize netted fish the least.
