If you own an outboard motor that is equipped with a pre-2011 portable fuel tank that is not EPA approved, we suggest you consider purchasing a tank that is. West Marine offers EPA approved portable boat gas tanks that are made of low permeation plastic and include features that limit the release of gasoline vapors into the environment. These tank designs are a far cry from your granddad’s boat gas can and are offered in 3-, 6-, and 12-gallon capacities. Now what about the fuel line from the fuel tank to your outboard? The EPA also mandates that fuel line assemblies (and primer bulbs) for outboard motors be made of low permeation material. If yours are not, consider a new fuel line assembly from West Marine.
