FORTRESS
Fortress Aluminum Anchors

Lightweight, fast-setting and reliable, this anchor gets fan mail

Made of high-tensile aluminum-magnesium alloy with no welds to weaken the metal, Fortress anchors are not only lightweight, they are strong! And they are versatile as well, with two adjustable shank angles: 32° for sand and 45° for soft mud. They are easy to handle and their light weight helps to minimize weight at the bow. Precisely machined, anodized, interlocking components are corrosion resistant, nonmagnetic and as easy to put together as they are to take apart. For compact storage, we suggest one of the bags offered separately on this page. Made in USA. Type approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Models FX-37 to FX-125 are certified as Super High Holding Power (SHHP) anchors.

  • Style: Pivoting aluminum fluke
  • Material: High tensile aluminum-magnesium alloy
  • Application: Sand and mud
  • Pros: Extra high holding power. Two shank angles hard sand and soft mud. Lightweight and strong. Disassembles for storage.
  • Cons: Less effective on rocky or grassy bottoms. Light weight makes small sizes “sail” under water if boat is drifting backwards quickly.
  • Warranty: Lifetime parts replacement

My back, shoulders and arms thank Fortress for their Aluminum Achors. I traded my 50Lb steel anchor for the Fortress and I could not believe the difference in not only weight...but the holding power. It also seems to dig in faster in the lake bottom. We don't use a windlass...so it's my back...or if we have quests...I can sometimes get a volunteer to hoist!

The anchor is light. I have a 17 ft. Alumna craft so space is limited and I'm trying to keep the weight to a minimum. I went out with the anchor one time on a windy day, Wind was blowing at 15 to 20 MHP with slight occasional gusts. I used the anchor at two locations. Bottom condition was soft mud, south Louisiana marsh. In both spots the anchor took its time biting the bottom, maybe drifting 20 to 40 feet before grabbing. I have the anchor adjusted to this bottom condition per the instructions. However I have a short Leader chain, Apx. 12" to 15" of 3/8" stainless steel chain. Its what I had on hand. I will get a longer chain, no less than 2' and try the anchor again.

            Comments about Fortress Aluminum Anchors:

Since purchased, we have used it in 8 different locations, and they have all hooked on the first try. Make sure it is setup to the correct angle for your use, as there was another boater next to us and was using it as his rear anchor as it never worked for him; when we looked, it was setup to the incorrect setting and that's why it wasn't working for him as in our group there are 2 that own the same exact Fortress FX-7.

                Comments about Fortress Aluminum Anchors:

I was a little nervous because this anchor was only 4lbs for my 26' bowrider but it really held great on the sandbar as the tide was going out and was much easier to use than the 13lb steel version that came with the boat

I fish Sebastian inlet and hangout with friends at the sandbar there. Got the fx-7 as a recommendation from an employee. I have a 225 cc triton. Holds firmly on the first attempt. Very impressedwith the holding power. Full incoming tide at Sebastian held firmly with no issues. This along with the lifetime parts warranty make this a no brainier. Highly recommended.
