I think the hose should be a little thicker to let more flow through. Found that it works best when the out drive is comletely down to start a syphon effect. Remember its not pressurized like you water hose from the house so don't expect the anti freeze to rush through the engine quickly. It took about a good 7 minutes for 5 gallons of anti freeze to exit out the exhaust. First time winterizing myself to save some $$$. Disconnected all hoses in engine compartment to be sure antifreeze was in them. Use -100 antifreeze incase there is any water left behind. Greater chances of not freezing. It's nice that the product is clear. Can easily tell if engine is sucking up the antifreeze. It works and would recommend this.

outboards don't need flushing, they simply self drain. Using the lower unit adapter on I/O spills most of the anti freeze on the ground. This contraption does not allow enough flow for a running inboard engine. I made my own for about $15 using 5 gal plastic bucket, and screwing a larger diameter (1") gate valve into the side, at the bottom, and used a 1" non-kinkable hose that gets sucked directly from my water pump inlets.

        Comments about Engine Winterizing Kit:

This product destroyed the impeller in my outdrive and caused my engine to overheat. The hose is too small in diameter to supply enough antifreeze and my impeller burned up and the engine over heated.

This product is terrible and is going to cost me a lot of money to repair my outdrive.

DO NOT BUY OR USE THIS EVER!!!!!!!!!!

                  Comments about Engine Winterizing Kit:

Well I just used the tank on my Correct Craft Ski Nautique. After I got it to stop leaking it worked great. My inboard motor sucked in five Gallons as I sprayed in the fogging oil. The problem I had is the brass fitting would not screw onto the plastic shut off valve tight enough to stop it from leaking. It leaked so bad water sprayed everywhere. I found a way to fix the problem by adding an additional plastic shut off valve between the original shut off valve and the brass fitting. See photo.

This is clearly a case where the people designing the product has never used it. They probably don't even own a boat.

                  Comments about Engine Winterizing Kit:

The fact that this is advertised to be used on outboards is misleading to a lot of boaters. I'm not sure why WestMarine does that. Outboards self-drain and do not need antifreeze if stored upright; if you do use antifreeze, it will drain itself out anyway. Perfect for an I/O, inboard, or water system., however.

I've used this very same kit for YEARS. The old method of releasing the drain plugs and draining the manifolds / risers as well as water pickup pump etc, is all nicely flushed with clean biodegradable antifreeze. Once you use this kit (and know how to use it correctly) - it makes winterizing a breeze in a fraction of the time. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone wanting to save time / money.
