The Osborne Reef was formed back in the 70's when a tire company got a contract with the City of Ft Lauderdale to install an artificial reef made of used tires. 2 Million tires were banded together and dropped off the coast with good intentions of creating a new reef space. Unfortunately, with what we know now these tires have leaked pollution, micro plastics and eroded other ecosystems. With Florida being a magnet for tropical storms, the tires have shot off from the ordinal band, now being found all the way from North Carolina to the Bahamas.
4ocean recently received a contract from the Florida Government to start helping retrieve these loose tires. We are compiling them, shredding and now making them into the Osborne Reef bracelet.
