Protect battery terminals from accidental shorts
Batteries installed in an un-covered battery box are exposed the risk of accidental cross current shorts. Tools and other conductive materials can bridge the positive and negative terminals to create a short and start a fire. Insulating the battery terminals is a way to prevent this risk.
