Take your gear aboard in a marine duffel bag.

When it’s time to sling your gear aboard and cast off, make sure you have a duffel bag of the right size and construction to handle the task. When shopping for a duffel, consider purchasing a waterproof bag (dry duffel) if things are going to get wet—and be sure to choose a bag that is big enough for the length of your trip.

The water resistance of bags varies.

If your boating, fishing, sailing or other adventure will take you into an environment where your bag and stowed gear will likely be exposed to water, splashes or rain, we suggest you carefully read the product descriptions and select the most waterproof bag available within your budget. The best dry bags are fully submersible, with waterproof, welded seams and a waterproof roll-top or zipper closure.

For outings where your gear will be transported and stowed in dry conditions, like in a dry cabin or locker, a lower-priced nylon or polyester bag should be sufficient to keep your gear dry.

Sizes

With duffel bag capacities ranging from 25 to 100+ liters, at West Marine, you will find the right gear bag for an afternoon sail across a lake or a multi-week ocean voyage. Many bags include different strap placement options so you can haul them in a way that is most comfortable for you. Options include over-the-shoulder carry, backpack-style, or cross-body carry.

Features

Features to look for in a sailing duffel bag (or any other duffel bag for that matter) include separate inner pockets for organizing gear, different carry options (as mentioned above) and a waterproof chamber for isolating wet or dirty clothes. In addition, look for waterproof construction if the bag will be used in wet conditions. In short, consider what your trip will entail and what you need to pack for optimal usability.
