Throw Ropes
Throw rope bags extend your range when throwing a rope.
Throw lines provide an accurate way to deliver a line to a person in the water or to pass a messenger line to another boat. Throw ropes are generally made of polypropylene line that floats. ORC specification 4.24 for ocean racing requires that a heaving line (aka throw rope) be readily accessible to a competitor’s cockpit. The regulation further states that a “throwing sock” type (like those by Mustang Survival and West Marine) is recommended. Common throw ropes consist of a lightweight bag loaded with line that deploys along its trajectory when the bag is thrown. An interesting variation of this common variety is the Pains-Wessex Linethrower 250, which is a rocket propelled, self-contained single-shot, line-throwing appliance that is compliant with international and SOLAS/MED regulations.
