The Harken Carbo Ratchamatic® is a load-sensing ratchet block that rolls freely in both directions under low loads and automatically engages the ratchet as loads increase. Shifting between ratchet and light-air modes is seamless, making trimming effortless across a wide range of wind conditions. This design gives sailors smooth, low-friction operation when loads are light and powerful holding assistance when loads build.

The HTE (High Threshold Engage) version takes this concept further. The internal spring was made stiffer specifically to delay the point at which the ratchet engages, allowing the block to run free more of the time. This higher engagement threshold means the old kite sheet can run free for longer during a gybe, enabling faster, cleaner sail changes. When loads do climb high enough to trigger the ratchet, the block delivers 20:1 holding power — dramatically reducing the physical load on the sailor in strong breeze.

The 2x Grip designation indicates the Power3 grip level optimised for big-breeze and steady-wind conditions, providing maximum holding capability. The swivel head ensures the block remains optimally aligned regardless of changing load angles, while the Carbo construction keeps weight to a minimum without sacrificing durability or breaking-load capacity. The block accepts lines up to 10 mm and attaches via a 5 mm shackle pin.
