The Lewmar Ocean Series 54ST self-tailing winch is engineered to satisfy the demands of both competitive racing sailors and offshore cruisers. Built from gray anodized aluminum, this two-speed deck winch combines race-bred performance with straightforward, tool-free servicing to deliver reliable line handling across a wide range of conditions. The Wavespring self-tailing mechanism — a combination of Wavegrip and self-adjusting springs — automatically adapts to varying rope diameters, ensuring a secure grip at all times without the need for manual adjustment.

At the heart of the winch is a massive, all-bronze one-piece center stem that supports stainless steel main shafts and gear spindles, lending exceptional structural strength. The bronze gear trains are machine-cut to very high tolerances, delivering smooth, powerful operation. A rigid one-piece nylon cage with snap-in stainless steel bearings and an integral grease pocket provides permanent lubrication and free-running performance, so the winch will not seize under any operating load.

Strip-from-the-top construction and a screw-on cap allow the winch to be completely disassembled by the owner without removing it from the boat. A highly efficient feeder arm design minimizes friction and ensures absolutely snag-free operation. From size 40 onwards, the Ocean series can also be converted to electric operation. The winch is backed by an impressive three-year warranty against defects in parts and workmanship.
