About the Savannah Store

Boat Parts & Marine Supplies in Savannah, GA

Savannah sits at the mouth of the Savannah River on one of the most dynamic stretches of the Georgia coast — a landscape of barrier islands, salt marsh estuaries, tidal creeks, and the open Atlantic that stretches from the South Carolina border south through Ossabaw Island and beyond. The Savannah River itself is a major commercial shipping corridor, and the surrounding waterway system — Wassaw Sound, Ossabaw Sound, Calibogue Sound, and the Intracoastal Waterway — gives recreational boaters access to some of the finest inshore fishing, sailing, and paddling on the Southeast coast. West Marine Savannah is located mid-town near the marinas, serving anglers, boaters, sailors, and kayakers throughout the Coastal Empire with a full selection of saltwater fishing gear, boat parts, marine electronics, sailing supplies, and paddle equipment.

Our Savannah team has firsthand knowledge of the local waterways, tidal fishing patterns, barrier island anchorages, and the specific maintenance demands of vessels kept in a year-round subtropical saltwater environment.

Boating Supplies and Parts

Savannah's network of rivers, sounds, and tidal creeks gives boaters access to an extraordinary range of water. Run the Wilmington River east through Wassaw Sound to Tybee Island and the Atlantic. Work your way south through the ICW toward Ossabaw and St. Catherines. Or head north up the Savannah River past the historic downtown waterfront and into South Carolina. Our store carries everything needed to keep your vessel properly maintained and equipped for this demanding saltwater environment:

Fishing Gear and Tackle

The Georgia coast's extensive salt marsh system — the largest contiguous salt marsh on the East Coast — creates one of the most productive inshore fisheries in the Southeast. Redfish and speckled trout are the primary inshore targets year-round, working the marsh grass edges, oyster bars, and tidal creek mouths that characterize the waterways around Savannah. Flounder are abundant around structure and inlet mouths. Summer brings tarpon into the sounds and rivers in numbers — Wassaw Sound and the Savannah River mouth both see strong tarpon activity from May through September. Sharks are a year-round presence in the sounds and nearshore zone.

Offshore, the Georgia Shelf extends well south and east of Savannah, and the artificial reefs and live bottom areas accessible through Wassaw Sound hold red snapper, grouper, and amberjack. The longer offshore run from Savannah means most serious offshore anglers depart from Tybee Island or use vessels trailered to the Lazaretto Creek boat ramp for the shortest inlet-to-fishing-ground transit. We carry:

Georgia saltwater fishing requires a valid Georgia fishing license with a saltwater endorsement. Verify current license requirements, size limits, and season dates at Georgia Department of Natural Resources — Coastal Resources Division before your trip.

Sailing Equipment and Navigation

Savannah's coastal position and the protected waterways of the Georgia barrier island chain make it a natural cruising destination on the East Coast ICW. The Savannah area is a well-known stopping point for the annual southbound Snowbird migration in fall and northbound return in spring. Calibogue Sound, just north of Hilton Head Island across the South Carolina line, offers excellent sailing conditions with consistent sea breezes and deep, navigable water. The barrier island anchorages — Wassaw Island, Ossabaw Island, and the uninhabited stretches of Cumberland Island to the south — are accessible by sailboat and offer some of the most remote and beautiful overnight stops on the Southeast coast. We carry:

Kayaking, SUP, and Paddle Gear

Savannah is one of the finest sea kayaking destinations on the Southeast coast. The tidal creek systems threading through the salt marsh behind Skidaway Island, Little Tybee Island's undeveloped shoreline accessible only by water, and the cypress-lined blackwater stretch of Ebenezer Creek north of the city represent three completely different paddling environments within an hour of downtown. The Ogeechee River's tidal section south of Savannah offers excellent flatwater paddling with strong wildlife viewing — alligators, wood storks, and river otters are common sightings. For those interested in kayak fishing, the redfish and speckled trout that inhabit the grass flats and marsh edges of Wassaw Sound are highly accessible from a paddle-powered vessel in water too shallow for motorized boats.
