The Victron Energy Argodiode 120-2AC is a diode battery isolator that lets a single alternator charge two battery banks at the same time without connecting them together. It is commonly used to charge a starter battery and a house or accessory battery in boats, RVs, camper vans, work trucks, and overland vehicles. Because the two banks stay isolated, discharging the house battery overnight will not pull down the starter battery. The engine always has power to crank. The Argodiode uses Schottky diodes for low voltage drop: approximately 0.3 V at low current and 0.45 V at rated output. A built-in compensation diode slightly increases alternator output voltage to make up for that drop, so the batteries still receive proper charging voltage. This model also includes an alternator energize input. Some alternators need DC voltage on the B+ output before they start charging, and the energize input supplies it so these alternators operate normally behind the isolator.
