FURUNO DRS4D-NXT Solid-State Doppler Radar
The FURUNO DRS4D-NXT represents a leap forward in marine radar technology, combining solid-state pulse compression with Doppler processing to deliver exceptional situational awareness on the water. Packing open-array performance into a compact 24-inch radome, this radar eliminates warm-up time and the maintenance concerns associated with traditional magnetron-based systems, providing instant-on readiness whenever you need it.
At the heart of the DRS4D-NXT is FURUNO's revolutionary Target Analyzer™ function — the first of its kind in the world — which uses Doppler technology to color-code radar echoes based on their motion relative to your vessel. Approaching hazardous targets are displayed in red, while stationary or departing targets appear in green, allowing mariners to instantly assess risk without manual interpretation. Echoes dynamically change color as the situation evolves, dramatically improving collision avoidance capability.
The Fast Target Tracking™ function displays target vectors within seconds of acquisition, either manually or automatically through the Auto Target Acquire feature. When Auto Target Acquire is active, any approaching target within 3 NM detected by Doppler calculation is automatically acquired and can trigger an alarm (TCPA setting required). Up to 100 targets can be tracked simultaneously, with past positions recorded at 5 or 10 points per target and vector times adjustable from 1 to 60 minutes.
RezBoost™ beam sharpening technology narrows the effective horizontal beam width from the native 3.9° down to an equivalent 2.0°, providing finer target separation and cleaner radar images — rivaling the resolution of much larger open-array antennas. Combined with the Bird Mode, which automatically optimizes gain and sea clutter settings for detecting birds congregating over schools of fish, the DRS4D-NXT becomes an invaluable tool for both safety and fishing applications.
Installation is straightforward: the radome never needs to be opened, an external PSU is not required, and a new smart-connector cable enables easy retrofitting of existing DRS2D, DRS4D, or DRS6A cable installations using optional kit OP03-239. A single 100Base-TX Ethernet (RJ45) connection carries both power and data, operating on 12–24 VDC at 2.5–1.3 A. The unit is rated IP26 for waterproofing and operates across an ambient temperature range of -25°C to +55°C.
