Harken Unit 1 Reflex Furling System — Code Zero, Fixed Tack Terminal
The Harken Reflex furling system represents a significant advancement in free-flying sail handling technology. Unlike previous-generation furlers that often resulted in partial or uneven furling, the patented Harken Reflex system provides sailors with confidence that their code zero and other straight-luffed sails will furl with speed, control, and consistency from top to bottom.
This Unit 1 configuration is specifically designed with a fixed tack terminal for code zero applications, making it ideal for boats up to 11 meters (36 feet). The system's compact drive unit is lighter and easier to handle than competing designs, reducing weight aloft while maximizing available luff length. When the furling line is pulled, the drive unit reacts reflexively to rotate the torsion cable, immediately transferring torque to the head swivel without the unwanted corkscrewing that delays response in older systems. The head swivel then spins the sail smoothly and completely, producing an even roll-up and super-tight wrap every time.
Key Features
- Flexible polycarbonate alloy cowling allows easy furling line feed without tools; stripper and feeder prevent jamming
- Offset holes in drive sheave grip rope securely during furling operation
- Compact design reduces weight aloft and maximizes luff length with padded cover to protect spars
- Braided stainless steel wire filaments over braided textile core transmit torque for faster furling; smooth polymer cable jacket protects sails from abrasion
- Quick-release modular T-fitting allows single drive unit to handle multiple sails; rolled sail disconnects with spring-loaded pin pull
- Fixed tack terminal suited for code zero straight-luffed sails
- 1.5T Minimum Working Load rating
- Suitable for boats 7.5–11 m (25–36 ft)
