Yamaha 6G0-45251-00-00 Anode
Yamaha outboards use sacrificial anodes part number 6G0-45251-00-00 to combat galvanic corrosion. When dissimilar metals are immersed in saltwater, electric currents cause the softer metal to corrode first. These external and internal anodes are typically made of aluminum and are designed to corrode instead of more valuable engine components such as the gearcase, propeller or powerhead. Inspect your anodes every six months or 100 hours and replace them when more than half of the material is gone. Properly maintained anodes ensure that the engine’s metal parts remain protected from corrosion and help prolong the life of your outboard. Always replace anodes with genuine Yamaha parts for the correct fit and material.
Sacrificial aluminum anode diverts galvanic corrosion from engine components. Protects gear cases, trim tabs and internal passages from saltwater corrosion.
This part number is used as a lower unit (gearcase) anode on older Yamaha 2?stroke motors, specifically 20?HP and 25?HP models built roughly in the 1980s to early 2000s, often labeled as 20A, 20B, or 25A series.
