Dometic SeaStar Power Assist
The Dometic SeaStar Power Assist PA1225-3 is an electronically controlled gear pump that is added to the hydraulic steering circuit between the helm pump and the steering cylinder. The system is comprised of two circuits: a hand-operated manual circuit, which acts as the control element, and the hydraulic power pump, which acts as the working element. The manual circuit consists of a helm pump with internal relief and check valves and a built-in reservoir. The power assist boosts the fluid being sent from the helm pump to the steering cylinder, resulting in significantly reduced wheel effort.
The gear pump speed is proportional to helm movement — turning the wheel faster increases pump speed. When not steering, the power assist is stopped and draws only standby power. The PA1225-3 is the standard Power Assist unit with a 25-foot harness (as opposed to the 15-foot harness PA1200-3). The PA1225-3 replaced the PA1225-2 as the direct replacement in February 2025, featuring updated ORB fittings and improvements to internal components for enhanced reliability.
