Heavier outboards and higher horsepower ratings put real load on hydraulic steering, and the Dometic SeaStar PA1200-3 is built to take that load off the wheel. It's an electronically controlled gear pump that installs into the hydraulic steering circuit between the helm and steering cylinder, amplifying the fluid the helm pump sends to the cylinder so steering effort stays light even under heavy or high-torque conditions. The helm still controls speed and direction; the power assist just does the work. Pump speed scales directly with how fast you turn the wheel, and when you're not steering, the unit sits idle and draws only standby power.

This is the updated -3 series, Dometic's latest revision of its popular Power Assist line. It carries new electronics for improved performance, along with ORB fittings that match current SeaStar helms and cylinders for a cleaner, more consistent install. The pump automatically recognizes 12V or 24V systems, so no manual configuration is required. If power to the unit is ever interrupted, steering reverts to full manual operation with no change to lock-to-lock turns, so you're never without steering control.

Because it's designed to retrofit into existing SeaStar systems as easily as it fits OEM installs, the PA1200-3 works with SeaStar helm pumps of any displacement, with 1.4, 1.7, and 2.0 cu. in. pumps recommended for optimal performance. It's rated for boats with multiple engines and rudders, multiple steering stations, and autopilot systems, and mounts to a wall or floor with the included hardware. Ignition-protected to SAE J-1171 and approved to ABYC, CE, NMMA, and ISO 10592 standards, it ships with a 15' wiring harness and is backed by Dometic's 2-Year Limited Warranty.
