How to Winterize Water Systems

Drain the entire water system as thoroughly as possible, opening all hot and cold faucets and other outlets, then use air pressure to blow out any remaining water. Drain the hot water tank and leave the petcock open, and bypass the tank by disconnecting its inlet and outlet lines and joining them with a hose and clamps.
