Comments about Em-trak Marine Electronics Class A AIS A100, Meets USCG Requirements:

New AIS regulations released by the USCG in 2015 required me to place Class A units on my fleet of towing vessels. JRC and Furuno Class A units were priced out in the $3000+ range, but I wanted to find something more compact and a little more cost effective while still having something USCG approved. This unit is the cheapest that I could find, and I now have 4 of them in 24/7 operation. They work well and don't take up a whole lot of room. My only complaint is that the screen even on the dimmest setting is too bright when operating at night. Unit runs a tad bit warm, so be sure to give the heat sink on top room to breathe.
