Comments about Bearing Life Bearing Protectors:

I was missing just one cap, but nobody sells only the caps. Every place sell the bearing kits with the caps.
First time I checked they were not in stock, but the salesman said that they should be in the following week. Stopped by the next week and the caps were in.

            • Doesn't Fit My Hubs

            Best Uses

Like two others on this site, the 1.98 Fulton bearing protectors won't fit on my 1.98 hubs. I tried several times with both protectors on both hubs to make them work. No matter what combination of protector to hub I tried, they just wouldn't work. The protectors won't give any to fit into the hub. I got to the point that I was afraid of damaging my hubs to make them fit. I will take them back to West Marine and buy another brand.

              Fulton Bearing Protector 1.980

              By Werner Roder

              from Greenwich, CT

I purchased the 1.980 version of the bearing protector. When I tried to put it on the bearing housing, it would not go on, regardless of the amount of hammering or attempts to adjust alignment. I then measured the diameter with a vernier caliper and found it was machined oversized to 1.985 instead of 1.980. There is no way a 1.985 piece can be press fit into a 1.980 housing using normal tools - and if you actually did it, there is no way you could take it off. Another reviewer reported the same problem, and then used a competitor's product successfully. I have reported this to West Marine management, and it is possible that future production may be corrected.

The oriiginal equipment came off and disaapeared on the highway. These have a different feel and I beleive they are going to be better.

Comments about Bearing Life Bearing Protectors:

They were just slightly to large for my hub. Perhaps my hub is slightly off or the pair I got was machined to large. Not sure. Anyhow they are extremely thick and will not give at all like a normal bearing cap. If they will not go on after a few strikes with the hammer they will never go on.After spending about an hour trying to drive these onto my 1.98 hubs I gave up and grabbed a pair of Bearing Buddy's. They fit just right. [...]
